At $35/hour, the math changes noticeably depending on how many hours a week are actually needed. Ten hours a week runs roughly $1,517/month; forty hours a week runs roughly $6,067/month -- already close to the state's assisted living median once weekly hours climb into the 40s.
Families sometimes assume in-home care is automatically the cheaper option compared to a licensed community, and for lighter care needs it usually is. But once a parent needs meaningfully more than about 40 hours a week of supervision, the math often favors a licensed assisted living community instead, even before accounting for the staffing depth a single hired caregiver cannot match alone overnight.
